Registered Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist provides therapeutic and diagnostic cardiopulmonary care to the Veterans in both in-patient and out-patient settings. The Home Oxygen Coordinator (HOC) will maintain the overall responsibility to the Home Oxygen Program. Major duties include, but not limited to:
Maintain prescriptions for all Veterans prescribed home Oxygen therapy by the Erie VAMC; monitor at home use for all Veterans enrolled in the program; maintains a high-risk registry of all Veterans identified having a history of non-compliance; provide Veterans with initial and Follow up education on Oxygen safety; subject matter expert (SME) and educate Providers and staff on all home Respiratory care modalities.in the home; conduct in home visits assess vendor performance; provide representation to the Home Respiratory Care Committee; report metrics and events for the program to Erie VAMC leadership; participate in progress improvement projects and RCA events related to the utilization of the home oxygen program; SME for Joint Commission survey, OIG investigations and Home Care surveys. Candidates must have all of the following:
At least 1 year of successful experience related to respiratory therapy at the GS-7 level or equivalent. Qualifying experience at this level is work which includes duties such as:
administering assisted and controlled ventilation to patients with tracheotomies and other complex medical problems requiring frequent adjustments in ventilator parameters; administering and monitoring advanced ventilator techniques such as positive end expiratory pressure and continuous positive airway pressure; developing plans for weaning patients from ventilators; assessing the respiratory status of patients using data acquired through physical observation and clinical analysis of blood gas data, chest x-rays, and electrocardiogram to determine the effectiveness of therapy being administered and to make recommendations to physicians regarding changes in treatment; performing the most difficult respiratory therapy procedures to maintain ventilation, including endotracheal intubation, tracheal lavage, and tracheotomy care; and providing in-service training to others in various specialized areas of respiratory care. Demonstrated knowledge and ability needed to perform complex respiratory procedures with minimal supervision. Is able to participate with physicians and nurses and other staff in planning respiratory treatment, with great reliance on the individual's knowledge of the equipment. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide emergency or critical respiratory care; service as a shift leader or supervisor or sole responsible respiratory therapist on a shift; and to plan and conduct training sessions with respiratory therapy students, hospital staff, patients, and family members. VA HANDBOOK 5005, PART II, APPENDIX G11 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-8. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-7 to GS-8. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 30 pounds, assist patients with transfers or ambulation. The position requires several miles of walking per day within the health center and at times may require climbing several flights of stairs. There may also be sedentary work where the therapist will be sitting for several continuous hours.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
