Health Aid

Provides holistic in-patient care to Veterans in a manner conducive to the comfort and safety of those in the facility hospital units, living centers and/or household. Protect, sustain, and nurture the resident by providing assistance as needed with activities of daily living, and with other needs as required in accordance with established policies and procedures to assure that the highest degree of resident's quality of life and care is maintained. Educates, role models, and assists patients and families in adhering to infection control principles throughout the facility. Maintains general cleanliness of the inpatient/resident's environment including emptying and cleaning urinals, bed pans, GU bags and suction bottles, and disposing of dirty linen and disposable briefs. Assists as needed with laundering and distributing resident's personal clothing. Distributes canteen books and incidentals. Utilizes specialized equipment such as ceiling lifters, Maxi lifters, wheelchair movers, steady and electric stretchers according to Safe Patient Handling and Movement Policy. Performs a range of clinical support duties, which include taking, recording vital signs and reporting deviations to the RN. Takes, monitors, and documents resident weight and height. Collects urine, stool, sputum and other specimens for Laboratory analysis. Performs blood glucose monitoring and reports results appropriately. Performs bladder scans and pulse oximetry as needed. Promotes skin healing by applying sterile dressings as per facility policy, wound irrigations/packing, ostomy/gastrostomy care. Performs a complete range of treatment procedures that include:
applying simple and complex sterile dressing, assists with inpatient/resident examinations and performs simple treatments such as hot and cold soaks, hot and cold packs, topical medications, foot soaks, sitz baths, etc.; checks sterile supplies and topical medications for outdated items and/or broken seals. May plan, organize and conduct diversional activities at all times including weekends, holidays, evenings and nights, as appropriate. Establishes and promotes effective interpersonal relationships and communications with patient's, families and others. Establishes and promotes effective working relationships with other employees on the treatment team. Responds to patient's family members', visitors,' and co-workers' requests for assistance promptly and in a friendly cooperative manner. Listens to all customer feedback and acts to resolve complaints within his/her control, and reports to Guide/immediate supervisor in a timely manner. Respects patients' rights, e.g. maintains privacy, confidentiality, and self-determination. Safeguards sensitive inpatient/resident information. Obtains equipment and supplies and assists the RN and/or medical provider(s) when he/she performs minor medical/surgical procedures when appropriate and within skills and knowledge. Assists with inventory management and ordering of supplies, placing stock as provided by SPD in appropriate storage areas, rotating stock on shelves, replenishing, and removing/replacing outdated items if needed. Participates in planning patient care by contributing relevant information about the inpatient/resident's status and progress. Adheres to established techniques and procedures. Reviews patient treatment plan and follows plan in performing care; observes and reports progress toward treatment goals and highest level of functioning. Records care of patient on appropriate documents; documents condition of inpatient/resident according to facility policy. Orients new patients and instructs them in self-care and activities of daily living. Educates and assists with various routine procedures; educates and assists as needed with set-up and purpose of treatment supported by auxiliary equipment (such as oxygen, suction); educates/assists in various procedures covering information previously supplied by the provider or nurse. Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-3 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-2 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. General experience includes:
(l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-3 level. Successful completion of l year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields. OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-3 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-3. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
