Pharmacy Technician

The pharmacy technician will assist under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in the non-judgmental aspects of preparing and dispensing medications and for final review by the pharmacist. The pharmacy technician will be familiar and knowledgeable with the technical and administrative aspects of all areas of pharmacy including Unit Dose, Sterile Products, Compounding, Bulk compounding, and Outpatient, Inpatient Dispensing and Anticoagulation Clinic. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Performs final review of medication (prepared by another technician) to be dispensed to inpatient areas (unit dose carts). Operates and maintains complicated pharmacy equipment. Answers questions from pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel regarding drug distribution. Inventories and replenishes emergency carts without a second review. Compounds and/or reconstitute oral or external medications (non- sterile) without a second review. Manufacturing sterile pharmaceuticals. Interpret prescription labels, preparation of prescriptions for dispensing. Packs/franks prescriptions to be mailed to patients. Work Schedule:

United States Citizenship:

Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification:
Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required. English Language Proficiency:
Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 Part II, chapter 2, section D. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level and in addition, the candidate must demonstrate the technical KSAs at the GS-6 level and the potential to GS-5 KSAs Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipment. Knowledge of, and ability to perform, aseptic technique. Knowledge of basic inventory procedures. Knowledge of pharmacy information systems. GS-6 KSAs Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate action. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders. References:

Regular and recurring physical exertion, involving standing for prolonged periods of time, lifting/carrying of pharmaceutical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds and bending/stooping.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
