56 an hour 19 hours ago 19 hours ago 19 hours ago Millcreek Township is seeking a caring and compassionate individual to protect the safety of the public and the welfare of animals by utilizing Township ordinances, and state laws and regulations regarding the care and humane treatment of stray and domestic animals.
The Position:
The Animal Resource Officer responds to public concerns regarding animal care and behavior, or reports of injured, stray, sick, or uncontrolled animals.
They will provide minor medical treatment when needed and transport animals to agencies, shelters, or veterinarians.
Domestic and stray animals must be humanely handled, captured, restrained, confined, and transported using proper equipment, methods, and techniques.
The Animal Resource Officer will remove deceased animals from roadways, transport and dispose of them appropriately.
This position will mediate and help to resolve conflicts between parties involving animal control issues including damage, barking dogs, uncontrolled animals, and potential or actual danger and injury to or by animals.
They will conduct accurate and thorough investigations including obtaining photographs and video, recover and properly storage of evidence, interview persons involved, and conduct follow-up inquiries.
As required, they will initiate criminal procedures for violations of applicable laws, appear at court hearings, and refer criminal code and game law violations to the proper authorities.
The Animal Resource Officer will produce written reports including daily activities, citations given, investigations made, and disposition of animals in their care.
While on patrol, they will also enforce other Township ordinances and codes, such as, but not limited to, ticketing for fire lane violations, ticketing for cars parked on-street during winter weather events, and nuisance complaints.
Candidate
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic Humane Society Police Officer Certification Parts I & II, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
NACA ACO I and II Training and Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge of Township and Commonwealth ordinances and regulations pertaining to proper care and control of animals.
Animal care background strongly preferred.
Must enjoy working with people and animals.
Ability to handle and control animals humanely and effectively in stressful situations.
Capable of assessing animal behavior and making effective decisions regarding the handling of the animal.
Working knowledge of basic symptoms and behaviors associated with rabies and other common diseases of animals.
Thorough understanding of methods and equipment used in the care and control of animals.
